The Warning of Heaven

Make sure that you do not reject the One who speaks. For if they did not escape when they rejected Him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from Him who warns us from heaven. (Hebrews 12:25 HCSB)

There is One who speaks from heaven. Imagine that! One who speaks and what is he saying?

A warning? Of all the things He could say… a warning from heaven. And the author’s advice to me? Make sure that you do not reject the One who speaks.

This isn’t just about rejecting what He says. It isn’t just rejecting the warning it is rejecting Him. There were some people who received a similar warning on earth. They rejected Him and did not escape.

His voice shook the earth at that time, but now He has promised, Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also heaven. This expression, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what can be shaken–that is, created things–so that what is not shaken might remain. (Hebrews 12:26-27 HCSB)

Some people say that if God would just reveal Himself in some dramatic way then they would believe. The Israelites saw God in such a way and they rejected Him. They rejected and did not escape.

What is the warning of heaven?

And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Anyone finding his life will lose it, and anyone losing his life because of Me will find it.
(Matthew 10:38-39 HCSB)

This is not a stop sign kind of warning. A warning against doing something. This is a warning about missing it. This is a warning about not doing something.

  • Not taking up a cross
  • Not following Jesus
  • Not being found worthy of Him

And in the process losing life.
